Abstract: | This paper aims to assess the antibacterial effect of some plant extracts in the form of essential oils obtained from lemon peel (Citrus limon), orange peel (Citrus aurantium), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum), clove (Syzygium aromaticum), red currant (Ribes rubrum), Elite variety and black currant (Ribes nigrum) Tinker variety. Disc diffusion method was used, thus determining the antibacterial activity of essential oils against Bacillus subtilis isolate ATCC 6633. The results showed that all essential oils used in the experiment have antibacterial potential. The best results were obtained for the essential oil of cinnamon, the inhibition zone diameter being of 31.55 mm. These preliminary data support a future evaluation of potential applications of active compounds in these essential oils for the purpose of using them as natural therapeutic agents. |
