Abstract: Lakes provide ecosystem services for the society and water quality, primary production and plankton composition are associated with their ability to perform these services. Hence, this study on the Dandaru Lake, on which there is a paucity of information on the primary productivity and phytoplankton assemblage. Monthly samples were collected for six months from five stations. Levels of essential primary productivity nutrients- phosphate (0.44±0.4mg/L) and nitrate (3.99±1.16 mg/L) were low; gross primary productivity was 1.23± 1.68 gC/m2/day, net primary productivity was 0.78 ±1.48 gC/m2/day and community respiration was 0.45 ± 0.72 gC/m2/day. The order of relative abundance of phytoplankton taxa was Euglenophyceae > Bacillariophyceae > Cyanophyceace >Xanthophyceae. Pollution tolerant phytoplankton species made up 75.83% of the total phytoplankton encountered in the lake. The mean H' value was 1.66 ± 0.26. The obtained values suggested that the reservoir was moderately polluted.
